BONIFACIO GLOBAL CITY MANILA PHILIPPINES

 Bonifacio Global City is one of nicest areas to stay and visit in the Manila area. There is great shopping restaurants and other attractions. This is where you will find Philippine people living from the middle class to the rich. The area is very safe from personal experience. I speak to many foreigners, some living in the Philippines and others visiting as tourists. Many have never heard of this city which surprises me!

You may here other names like BGC or the Fort. The area, years ago was part of the main Philippine Army Base

Accommodation

There are a number of hotels within BGC. I have only ever stayed at the SEDA HOTEL which is very good with great service. Another option is to rent a condominium if you plan to stay in the area for a number of days.
Another alternative is to stay just out of Global City. I needed to stay in the area for a month with my family so we rented a 2 bedroom condominium at Cypress Towers, Taguig City a few Kilometers out of Global City. The complex was secure and have a very nice swimming pool. This is just an alternative if you are on a budget. CONDO SHORT TERM RENTAL

CYPRESS TOWERS

High Street
The top end of HIGH STREET is closed to traffic and has many restaurants and specialty stores, some are high end This is a great place to just sit and relax. The food available at these restaurants will suite all. You can eat inside or have a table outside and maybe have a few beers and take in the great atmosphere.


Market Market
MARKET MARKET is just a short walk from High Street. The area contains a market and shopping mall. The complex contains everything and the prices are reasonable. There are also many eateries and just a very vibrant place to visit.
There is a supermarket on the lower ground level which is quite large. Being a foreigner living in Tacloban I like this supermarket as they a wide range of American and Australian foods which at times I purchase just before flying home.
SM AURA
This is a high end mall very well presented. It is not too far from Market Market and you cannot miss it. I describe the building complex as L shape. Some people describe the shape like a boot. It is worth a visit for a look around. You will be impressed.

High end Luxury cars
This is one thing that surprised me. Within Bonifacio Global City you can purchase a Ferrari, Lamborghini or a Rolls Royce plus others. If you are a car fanatic then an activity option is to visit these dealerships for look. I have written a previous article on this subject.

 Taxis
I have found taxi drivers in Global City very good. You can travel to most areas in the city for under 100 peso. Be polite and always ask the driver to use the meter. I always say to the driver I know it is a short fare but will give you 100 peso anyway. They have families to care for and rely on tips to make a reasonable living. I have visited Global City many times in the last 5 years and cannot remember any issue with taxi drivers.
To catch a taxi to the airport is not too expensive if you travel in non-peak periods. I have had fares as low as 300 peso plus I give 100 peso tip. Again ask the driver to use the meter, be polite and tip whatever you believe is appropriate.
Final thoughts
There are many options when visiting and staying in Manila. I have stayed in other parts of the city including Makati, Ermita and Alabang. What suites one person may not suite the other? There is nothing wrong with knowing what options are available.  Over the years Banifacio Global City has become my favorite and choice to stay when visiting Manila.

A NEW RESORT FOR THE BUDGET CONCIOUS NOT TOO FAR FROM TACLOBAN CITY (DULAG AREA)

JANA’S RESORT When Filipinos and foreigners visit Tacloban and they have seen most of the sites they may be looking for a day with a difference. Especially now with the warm weather a nice swimming pool is very tempting. Foreigners and Filipinos may desire to stay in this type of resort if you like a quiet area There is a new resort about 38 km from Tacloban City in the Dulag area. The name is JANA’S RESORT. I visited this resort recently with family and friends. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a great day. THE ENTRANCE IS QUITE IMPRESSIVE I live in this area but closer to Tacloban To my best knowledge there is no resort of this type between Tacloban City and Dulag. FOREIGNER BUILDING A HOUSE IN LEYTE PROVINCE PHILIPPINES

INTRODUCTION I have foreign friends in different parts of the Philippines who prefer to live in condominiums or gated communities. This is a personal choice. From what I have been told from these friends rent can be anywhere from 50,000 to 70,000 peso a month. When you look at the rent that is 600,000 to 840,000 peso per year. In dollars that is $12,000 to $17,000 US/year  I should point out these condominiums are a bit up market and you could rent cheaper places. I am living approximately 35 km from down town Tacloban in the Dulag area. I found a barangay with the help of my wife that is safe and just inland from the sea. To go for a swim or just relax the Pacific Ocean is only a few kilometers away.
