CELEBRATION OF A CHILDS FIRST BIRTHDAY IN THE PHILIPPINES
Our daughter was walking before she was one year old. She is
also got a good grasp for words but the languages are mixed as my wife and
myself speak English and others Waray which is the dialect in this part of the country.
Filipinos love to celebrate birthdays. It is the most celebrated event apart
from Christmas and New Year.
A child’s 1st
birthday is a big event in the Philippines
In the Philippines a child’s first birthday is a big event
and most families try to put on a party within their means. I am not working
and living on savings but decided my daughter would have a great party. We
contracted a business in the Dulag area that specializes in birthday parties
Superstitions in the
Philippines
I am curious of the superstitions of Filipinos. Our daughter’s
hair cannot be cut in the first year of life. In addition a long noodle dish
must be part of the foods prepared for her first birthday. I think this relates
to a long life. Whether you believe, agree or disagree this is part of the
culture here and should be respected.
A happy and proud
day
The big day was now upon us. This party is a celebration of our daughters first year of life and also brings joy to allot of children. Everybody enjoyed themselves Around 120 children and 50 adults attended. There was plenty of food and candy for the children and for the adult’s two pigs on a spit and other varieties of Philippine food. We paid for a photographer and a person to take a video for this great occasion. There were clowns, a magician and of course Mickey Mouse.
This barangay (village) has a percentage of poor people and they were very welcome. The feeling was great to see the local children have good foods with plenty of laughter and smiles
My daughter may never remember this day but it has been recorded on video. How times have changed. I have a few pictures of myself at this age but no movie or video. As our daughter grows she can look back, show the video to her children and grandchildren
A happy and proud day for all.
